I wouldn't recommend using the packages built from the main SVN tree, as they 
have some problems like the missing SMTP auth support you mentioned.

Instead, KDAB is porting Kontact to MacOS and Windows in the "enterprise4" SVN 
branch, as part of the Kolab project. There just have been beta packages 
released, see
http://wiki.kolab.org/index.php/Kontact_for_Windows_(beta-huge-debug).
A roadmap is at http://www.kolab.org/roadmap.html.
I wouldn't use this in production yet, it clearly is beta software and still 
has some problems. Please also read the readme file.
But soon Kontact will be running well on all major problems.
