Yes, that's a fundamental difference, since the broken action is implemented
the kontact plugin. If you use the "Actions->New Event..." menu item, the
selection is correctly taken, just like it is when you simply start typing.

Because kontact is already running. If you quit kontact, and start korganizer
after that, it will run standalone.

I talked to Allen on IRC and I found out the problem. I'm currently trying to
fix it.
