Because I chose IMAP to be able to work on my mail, whether I'm on my home 
laptop or in the office. If I have the tags only locally on one machine, I 
probably won't use them. For the same reason, I don't use bookmarks, because 
they are different on the two machines (so you don't get used to their 
position or even to their structure).

.... You don't know how often the mail index of my dimap cache gets messed up 
(usually on a kmail crash) and the whole folder is fetched again from the 
mail server. All tags would then also be lost, right?

Me to!!!! But I'd like them to be the same on both machines. After all, I'm 
looking at the same mails...
