A brief look at http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=36322
looks like it is not storing it on the imap server meaning you can not see the labels on another machine. (but it was only a brief look, could be wrong). If this is true, I would not advise to port it to KMail, but that is just mho.

Yes. Imap supports labels, just like "deleted" is nothing more than a label. Thunderbird and another 
mail client (*cough*) support this. Which is also convenient when you have a shared folder and want
to easily devide the mails between more people.
