Testing anomalies - help needed

Hi all, I've been attempting to test the newest Phonon (from git), the
newest pgst tarball, newest pvlc tarball, and Amarok from git. Yes,
everything runs, BUT Amarok isn't seeing those new phonon and pvlc
builds, and thinks I'm not using Pulseaudio, which is installed from
Kubuntu packages. For some reason, pgst is seen correctly, according
to the Amarok Settings/Phonon/Backend dialog.

Looking at the new Amarok Diagnostics dialogue:

Amarok Diagnostics

Amarok Version: 2.5-GIT
KDE Version: 4.9.00
Qt Version: 4.8.1
Phonon Version: 4.6.60
Phonon Backend: VLC (0.4.55)
PulseAudio: No

This after working with Sam Lade yesterday, and restarting KDE, to get
to the bottom of all of this. BTW, I'm using Kubuntu 12.04, with the
newest KDE release.

End of the pvlc build:

[100%] Built target phonon_vlc
Install the project...
Install configuration: "debugfull"
 -- Up-to-date: /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/phonon_backend/phonon_vlc.so
 -- Up-to-date: /usr/share/kde4/services/phononbackends/vlc.desktop

The cmake line I used for pvlc: cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr
-DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=debugfull $HOME/kde/src/phonon-backend-vlc-0.5.92

Odd:
$ /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/plugins/phonon_backend$ ls
	phonon_gstreamer.so

<Sentynel>	looking at the phonon-backend-* packages
<Sentynel>	it looks like gstreamer goes to the arch specific directory
<Sentynel>	and vlc to the general one
<Sentynel>	'cos that's not confusing
<Sentynel>	oh hold on
<Sentynel>	there's /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/phonon_backend
<Sentynel>	as well as the qt ones
<Sentynel>	I think the custom built ones seem to go to the kde4 one
<Sentynel>	but the packaged ones to the qt ones
<Sentynel>	so try renaming /usr/lib/qt/plugins/phonon_backend/phonon_vlc.so
<Sentynel>	(this may lead to Fun when there's package updates of course)

$ find ~/kde -name phonon_*.so
/home/valorie/kde/src/phonon-backend-gstreamer-4.6.1/build/gstreamer/phonon_gstreamer.so
/home/valorie/kde/src/phonon-gstreamer/build/gstreamer/phonon_gstreamer.so

What's going on, and how do I fix it? Where is the diagnostics tab
getting its information?

Valorie
