Message-ID: <1750976.0XyIlnsMUC@midna> Hi all, I was just wondering what the current recommended way for KDE developers to build Phonon. I understand that the Qt-provided Phonon is fairly ancient, but compiling Qt without phonon support gives some deficiencies in QtWebKit. So, is the "best" idea to: 1. Build Qt with -phonon to allow for QtWebKit to support Phonon output, then 2. Build phonon/phonon from git.kde.org to override the Qt Phonon? If so, how should it be ensured that KDE Phonon is actually overriding Qt's? Regards, - Michael Pyne -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... There's instead an optional dependency on QtMultimediaKit (the one from Qt Mobility, not the one bundled with Qt). There's also an option to use GStreamer directly, but I have no idea how complete this implementation is. -- Thiago Macieira - thiago (AT) macieira.info - thiago (AT) kde.org Software Architect - Intel Open Source Technology Center PGP/GPG: 0x6EF45358; fingerprint: E067 918B B660 DBD1 105C 966C 33F5 F005 6EF4 5358 -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... As of today the #phonon IRC channel on freenode forwards to #kde-multimedia. This was discussed an agreed upon last month [1]. It enables more focused work of the Phonominals within the super team that is kde-multimedia. Many thanks to Kenny for making it all happen fast enough that I had no time to start crying over the old channel ;) While I am at it... we also concluded that merging the phonon-backends mailing list into kde-multimedia would be very sensible, so this is also going to happen soonish. If you want you can go ahead and change your subscription accordingly. The Phonominals are pleased to announce the first release candidate for the revamped GStreamer backend for the Phonon multimedia library. This version includes a substantial rewrite of the pipeline building, resulting in GStreamer's own playbin2 handling all the heavy lifting. As such, things will be more stable, extensible, and most importantly, maintainable. The official announcement along with laundry list of other changes is available on my blog: http://wm161.net/2011/09/16/phonon-gstreamer-4-6-rc1/ If things go according to plan, the full release of 4.6.0 will be before the end of the month. Lots of things were changed, so please go out there and test! -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... That is because kdelibs' findpulseaudio.cmake has a broken regex now thanks to pulse having dropped the micro version. On a related note the version check should prefer the dedicated defines for major, minor, and micro version macros and only fall back to this hideous pa_get_headers_version macro for compatibility. <3 _______________________________________________ kde-multimedia mailing list kde-multimedia at kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-multimedia From colin at guthr.ie Fri Sep 30 15:02:24 2011 From: colin at guthr.ie (Colin Guthrie) Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2011 15:02:24 +0100 Subject: PulseAudio 1.0 and kdemultimedia 4.7.1 In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <4E85CBF0.4020509@guthr.ie> 'Twas brillig, and Harald Sitter at 30/09/11 15:00 did gyre and gimble: > On Fri, Sep 30, 2011 at 2:46 PM, todd rme wrote: >> I am trying to build kdemultimedia 4.7.1 with pulseaudio 1.0, and I am >> getting this message: >> >> Could NOT find PulseAudio: Found version "#define >> pa_get_headers_version() ("1.0")", but required is at least "0.9.12" >> (found /usr/lib64/libpulse.so) >> >> Of course 1.0 is higher than 0.9.12. I thought I'd fixed that a while ago? Or is this bit of code copied around horribly? I think it's causing us issues elsewhere too in places we can't fix.... when I chuck out a bugfix, I'll likey put in 1.1.0 (or 2.0.0 or whatever) in these functions. Yes it is, at least there is a version in kdelibs and one in phonon (since phonon is a dep of kdelibs we need our own finder), from looking at the code it seems that phonon's finder should work just fine whereas kdelibs' fails as it does not use the new macros... bringing me back to a statement I made on IRC yesterday: It would be best if PulseAudio were to simply install a cmake config file, which is roughly the same as pkgconfig, except different format and path [1]. Maybe something worth considering, since I do not think there would be much effort involved. [1] http://www.vtk.org/Wiki/CMake/Tutorials/How_to_create_a_ProjectConfig.cmake_file regards, H
