Phonon itself could support sample caching and then optionally allow the 
backend to handle it for maximum efficiency (if the backend doesn't, Phonon 
could hold onto the samples using something like KSharedDataCache, although a 
kded module would be better I think as long as we're referring to samples on-
disk)
