           Summary: Remove optional dependency of libtunepimp-0.5.3 from
                    kdemultimedia
           Product: kdemultimedia
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Compiled Sources
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kde-multimedia at kde.org
        ReportedBy: taurnil.oronar at gmail.com

Version:           4.2.2 (using KDE 4.2.2)
Compiler:          4.2.4
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Compiled From Sources

Remove optional dependency of libtunepimp-0.5.3 from kdemultimedia and use
something else. What that something else is I don't know but here is the
problem. Mpeg4ip as I understand it is defunct and more or less taken over by
http://code.google.com/p/mp4v2/. The issue here is libtunepimp fails the make
not finding mp4.h because mp4v2 uses mp4v2.h header. I filed a bug report with
the libtunepimp folks ( http://bugs.musicbrainz.org/ticket/5095 ) but I doubt
seriously if it will get fixed. Looking over their bug reports for tunepimp, a
great many of the tickets are closed with;

    * status changed from new to closed.
    * resolution set to wontfix.

libtunepimp is no longer used

and it looks to me work on this has stopped some where in the fall of 2008.

So you might say just use the last latest mpeg4ip (1.6.0). Well, that file as
noted on their website is corrupt, and have no way to fix it. After much
searching I did find a un-corrupt tarball, except the make failed terribly on
faac or faad. Don't remember atm but it tanked badly. So the gist of this is
some alternative needs to be found to take tunepimps place.

Thanks for listening, and great work.
