Which distro is that?
That's a bold move, because newer cards like USB cards won't work with an OSS API v3 mixer, according to http://developer.opensound.com/oss4white.pdf. This document indicates that there is no generic compatibility layer.

KMix uses the OSS API v3. I have no experience with v4, and there is no support in KMix for OSS API v4 currently.
Also, the motivation for doing an OSS API v4 backend is highly limited. Linux doesn't ship OSS at all in newer Kernels, and *BSD is using OSS v3 as far as I know. But if somebody develops and maintains a backend, I will gladly include it.

I am definitely interested, as some cards should still work. For example, I'd like to know which cards still work and which not. And how good they work.
