I can't confirm. HEAD CVS dated 20040510, g++ 3.3.3 compiled with -O2 -march=athlon-tbird -mmmx -m3dnow.

I'm listening to an MP3 on JuK, playing through aRts and through ALSA (Linux kernel 2.6.6). No distortions that I can hear.

Can you check if you have other optimisations enabled (-march especially).
