Sounds like the stream didnt start for some reason. I've added a check to see 
if the pthread have been started succesfully.

Still strange. I haven't seen deadlocks here  in a week, maybe it is time for 
me to commit the arts-instream framework even if disabled, just to keep the 
cvs version the same as my own stable one.
