usually this is because the device file for the CD-ROM is not read/writable by 
your user. check the permissions on the device file and change them as 
appropriate.

as a side note, there are some great user-oriented email lists that may be 
able to help you better, if you haven't already tried them. there's also the 
#kde channel on the openprojects.net network (try irc.openprojects.net). and 
if you come across something you feel is an actual bug, http://bugs.kde.org 
is the place to report those.
