Using noatun/kaboodle with no visualization plugins gives very high CPU usage
Here are som results from playing a 280kb/s ogg file.
noatun/kaboodle using arts using alsa0.9:
artsd uses 60-80% CPU with lots of dropouts
noatun/kaboodle using arts using alsa0.9 oss emulation:
artsd 60-80% CPU with dropouts while opening and using other programs e.g konqueror
XMMS with alsa plugin:
0-2% CPU, no dropouts whatsoever
XMMS with alsa0.9 oss emulation:
0-2% CPU, no dropouts whatsoever
XMMS with arts plugin, arts is using alsa0.9:
xmms uses 5% CPU, no dropouts
artsd uses 5% CPU, no dropouts
XMMS with arts plugin, arts is using alsa0.9 oss emulation:
xmms uses 5% CPU, no dropouts
artsd uses 5% CPU, no dropouts
Is have always had this problem with noatun/kaboodle, irrespective of any software versions.
Hardware: Intel Pentiun III 450MHz with Soundblaster Live! Soundcard
Software version of non-KDE software in the test:
xmms version 1.2.7 (debian package name xmms)
xmms alsa driver is alsa-xmms 0.9.9b (debian package name alsa-xmms)
xmms artsd driver is xmmsarts 0.4 (debian package name xmmsarts)
alsa0.9 is version 0.9.0rc7
kernel is linux-2.4.21-pre5
Software version of KDE software:

arts 1.1.0
