artsplay object

Assuming I was looking for a good template to base a new artsplay object
(audio only) off of, where should I look?  I.e., which one is implemented in
a clean fashion, using a third-party library to do the decoding, and passing
that along to artsd?  I'm not the worlds greatest or fastest programmer, but
I can generally get the job done when I have decent examples to work off of.

I'm specifically not mentioning what I'm working on, so that people don't
expect me to get it done B-)
