Linux 2.4's awful IO scheduler causes that condition to happen on my machine all the 
time, and the playback doesn't skip the song (it does pause for a few_seconds_ though). 
 
I think I mean to say that this shouldn't happen; maybe it's one of redhat's infamous "we 
changed it cause we felt like it" patches that help nothing and break everything.</bitter>
