It's black magic. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. :P

I'd recommend you to use assertions and printf debugging as well as using a 
debugger. As Charles said kdbg is pretty good. There are some alternatives, 
surely. You can use ddd which is kind of my favorite. There is a new gdb 
interface, probably gtk-based, I don't remember it's name it's available in 
debian :)
And there is insight, the tcl/tk interface....

Apart from that I guess it'd be wise to use a debug build of kdemultimedia as 
well as your playlist. Nah, I should do that. I saw dub crashing where it 
shouldn't!
