Ok, I killed all configuration today and tested again.

-First time I ran the wizard it came to the message "Creating resource
instance for 'IMAP E-Mail Server'...", then the Finish button was enabled.
Then it asked for a new password for KWallet. The password edits were unusable
small, the height was only a few pixels. Then it came to a more or less white
page with Cancel in the bottom left and Done in bottom right. I clicked done
and nothing happened anymore (i.e. no account). Later learned that screen
happens when I press Select in the bottom left when there is no account.

-started the account wizard for the second time. Got distracted and came back
when the KWallet dialog was waiting for my password. Entered it and looked in
the details:

(i) Setting up identity...
( ) Identity set up.
(i) Creating resource instance for 'IMAP E-Mail Server'...
(i) Configuring resource instance...
X Could not set setting 'Password': Did not receive a reply
(i) Identity removed.
(i) Removed resource instance for 'IMAP E-Mail Server'...
(i) Creating resource instance for 'IMAP E-Mail Server'...
X Failed to create resource instance: Agent instance creation timed out.
(i) Removed resource instance for 'IMAP E-Mail Server'...

-clicked back and next again: got a message that there was a problem sending
the credentials securely to the server

-KWallet password was asked again

-then it finally tried to reach my server as now I got the TLS certificate
warning (Where is the SSL store so I could add CAcert there? Or why is the
existing store of the N900 itself (where I already added them) is not used?
Probably a general kssl disease).

-back to the main screen, still no server visible (kmail-mobile process
constantly eats ~5% CPU since a while, still waiting to see if anything useful
happens at all). About 20 minutes later I killed that altogether.

So, conclusion: new packages, but this time I did not even get so far that I
could list the folder contents.
