I see that ExifTool is not found, please set the correct path in the settings.
In my opinion, a non-running ExifTool cannot actually block the metadata tab.

You are not using the symbolic link, so ExifTool is not found on your computer.
The path to ExifTool should be this:

/Applications/digiKam.org/digikam.app/Contents/bin/Image-ExifTool/
