Did you compare left and right views properly. You don't see the differences ?
digiKam video preview is always different than VLC.

The washed out in highlight problem is always reproducible in digiKam video
preview when video hardware acceleration is OFF. 

Note : open the images in browser and disable color management, just to be sure
to see the differences.
