   Using the Breeze widget style seems to work around the problem. It was
   set to Macintosh.

     Which widget style did you choose in the digiKam setup under
     Miscellaneous->
     Appearance? Try the other widget styles available, prefer Breeze
     if it is
     available. Can this solve the problem with dark color themes on
     macOS?
