With digiKam 7.5.0 pre-release, under my macbook pro running with BigSur, i
cannot reproduce your problem.

Both Import/Add Folders, or Import/Add Images can show the native file dialog
when option is enabled in Setup/Misc section. As you can see on my screenshot,
i go to the KINGSTON removable device (usb key). It work also for a SDCARD for
ex.
