I'm still considering if and how I am going to introduce keychain support to KWallet. I've learned quite a bit about Qt since I did the KDE4 implementation so if I do decide to pick this ticket back up I will probably try to preserve kwalletd. That should remove the need for the elaborate locking and refcounting code using shared memory.
It is quite possible that I will only find the motivation to look into this when I start using more kwallet-based services...
