Indeed, that's almost exactly the symbol I had in mind. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to search for "warning" among the Unicode symbol names :-/
I think the "bell" represents the kind of counter-top bell you can find in hotels, the type you slap with your hand in order to signal your presence. But you're right, it's a bit too stylised. Kind of does work for grabbing one's attention though ... "what on earth is that??", don't you think? ;)
