Whew, I've got KDE PIM up and running - if you read this you have proof that the basic functionality works.

It was a hell of an exercise on 10.6.8, including several (re)attempts to figure out which compiler worked in the end and so on.
I hope I'll remember everything I did and file tickets on trac.

Here's to not having to repeat the same dance in my 10.9 VM!

PS: Nicolas: which component/service handles email indexing now? If baloo, can I dispense with starting the nepomuk service?
