Hi guys,

This is to let you know that I have now set up a new project in KDE,
with Ben Cooksley's help. It is is in Playground/Base and is called
"Fixes for KDE problems that occur on Apple OS X".

The corresponding git repository is called "osx-patches". It is open
to clones, downloads and commits and to Reviewboard.

So far it has the raster graphics patches and a new set of patches
I have just developed to make KDE crash and Dr Konqi work properly
on OS X and produce a formatted backtrace output after a crash.

Right now I am working on making the bug reporting dialogs work
properly, too, and have made some headway… :-)

You can view the repository at either
http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=osx-patches.git or
https://projects.kde.org/projects/playground/base/osx-patches/repository

For more details, please have a look at the README file
https://projects.kde.org/projects/playground/base/osx-patches/repository/revisions/master/entry/README
or the patches and commit messages themselves.

You can download the repository with the command
git clone git://anongit.kde.org/osx-patches

My idea is to accumulate patches in this repository as I go and to let you
know via email whenever new patches are available. And I am hoping
others may contribute patches sometimes.

I may also use ReviewBoard, bugzilla reports or email to draw attention to
the problems and the patches in KDE circles. However, I will always back
up any of that with commits to the osx-patches repository. That way nothing
gets lost or forgotten if people fail to respond or if I get run over by a bus.

My other idea is to make this a central point from which both KDE and
Macports developers, as well as KDE CI developers, can acquire patches
for fixing common problems in OS X versions of KDE.

Eventually, I hope the patches or equivalent KDE code will become part of
standard KDE and thus fix the OS X portability problems forever, but until
then they are available to MacPorts developers and to any KDE
developers or maintainers who wish to review and test them.

Cheers, Ian W.
