How can I change the xkb map/keyboard layout / etc. in plasma5 + kwin + wayland?

Replying to myself, I'd like to note that it seems I have been able to overcome
the problem that bothered me from the other end:

Namely, I fixed the behaviour of KDE frameworks-based apps on X11 by unapplying
a merge request that changed them ("27291 – [KDE Frameworks 5.74] New instance
of QWidgets-based KDE apps (only on X11) starts in the last known position and
size, overlapping the existing instance").

That put aside I still would like to learn how to change the keyboard layout on
plasma5 + kwin + wayland, because wayland may be preferable in the future and
because others may benefit from this knoweldge (and it appears to be hard to
find).
