I had to add one more item to your fine instructions. In pclos, there are four instances of a script file called noblank.sh, all identical, 
and all DISabling dpms. These files are in:
/usr/bin/     /root/.kde4/Autostart/     /home/USER/.kde4/Autostart/     /etc/skel/.kde4/Autostart/
So I cp'd them all to noblank.sh.bak and rm'd the originals.
Now the system works just as I want it to. Thank you very much, once again, Pablo!
