hp-systray can display popup notifications on printer status (printing
finsihed, printer out of paper, etc.) and it can start hp-toolbox which can do
quite a bit of management of printers that use drivers provided by the hplip
project. (hp-systray and hp-toolbox are some of the GUI component prepared by
the hplip project.)
