[kde-linux] OpenDesktop plasmoid doesn't show friends

I installed the opendesktop plasmoid (SC 4.4).  It lists people 'nearby' - 
which appears to mean anywhere in the UK plus the odd person from Bermuda ;-D.  
I even saw my conversation with a developer in the Messages pane.  What I 
don't see, though, are my Friends.  Does this work for others?
