I saw on Gentoo users list where Dell was recommended.  If you plan to 
buy a new one, tell them you will be using Linux and everything has to 
be hardware based.  I seem to recall that at one time, Dell sold systems 
with Linux on it already.  Those were mostly servers and it has been a 
while so they may not now.

I would find out what kind of hardware it has and just Google for the 
drivers and see if they are available.  There are several sites that 
list what is supported.
