I don't think Phillip really said (nor intended to say) that no <user> 
can read any USB device--he was merely acknowledging the possibility 
that the problem was because *in this case* the user can't read the USB 
device, presumably because of an ownership / permissions problem.

That is now confirmed by the results that Guillaume posted in a new 
thread, which, unless someone else has responded to, I will respond to 
shortly.
