[kde-linux] Why is Kmail so buggy??

Let me say first that I really like Kmail a lot. In spite of its
problems. I don't want to use something else. But why is it such a
piece of c***?

I am once again having a problem that I experienced once before - one
of my messages fails to display a body. I only get headers. With just
blank *white* underneath them. I should probably mention that I'm
running 1.9.9 (KDE 3.5.9) within Kontact, on Gentoo Linux. And I'm
using IMAP.

When this happened before, the message in question remained "body-less"
for about *three weeks*. And then the body mysteriously returned (I
deliberately avoided deleting it). It does display properly at first,
and then the body disappears. And it remains so across *many*
restartings of Kmail and rebootings of the system. Now I've got another
one of these crazy messages. Very irritating. And it only affects one
message. Seems like it ought to be related to IMAP implementation.
Anybody know what this is and if the message can be "fixed"?

This is not the only problem I've had with Kmail. Far more often than
should be acceptable for a piece of software labeled version 1.9.9, the
thing just crashes in a fireball if you do something a little odd (since
it happens so suddenly and unexpectedly, I can't even keep track of the
sort of actions that make it crash).
