I think I've found an answer for myself and perhaps it may help you, as
well.  Open an xterm and type `dcop kdesktop KScreensaverIface`, and you
will be presented with a number of options to control the KDE screensaver
from the command line.  The user can enable, disable, start, stop, lock,
unlock, set or unset locking, and check for status.
