[kde-linux] K3B DMA timeout with DVD+RW

I'm running PCLOS-2007, fully upgraded. I haven't been able to get K3B to
write a DVD+RW since I first installed 2007. It worked fine in PCLOS .93.
I've gotten no help from the forum. K3B has been upgraded 4 times; now
1.0.4-3pclos2007. K3B writes CDs - R and RW and DVD-R OK. If I try to write a
DVD+RW data disk the CPU is maxed out and it's a very slow process to get the
system to respond to a kill. After that, it returns to normal. Log shows "DMA
timeout error", then a long list of drive busy. DMA is enabled. hdparm
output:
/dev/hdc:
 IO_support    =  0 (default 16-bit)
 unmaskirq     =  0 (off)
 using_dma     =  1 (on)
 keepsettings  =  0 (off)
 readonly      =  0 (off)
 readahead     = 256 (on)
 HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

What is this HDIO_GETGEO?
