[kde-linux] Konqueror and cookies

I need to visit a secure site, but my login is being refused because it can't 
set a cookie.  This is Mandriva + KDE 4.0.4, and the Settings dialogue tells 
me that cookies are enabled, yet I get this message:

Unable to start the cookie handler service.  You will not be able to manage
the cookies that are stored on your computer.

Any suggestions, please?
