It would appear that on Mar 9, Kevin M Coonan MD did say:

Well I'm not sure about "seg faults" But I have what sounds like a
similar problem with a ksynaptic setting not being honored upon kde
restart or possibly 'corrupted?' on gui shutdown... This is however also
"a bit OT" but about a ksynaptic setting problem.

I don't know if this relates to the previous posters ksynaptic setting
problem. But on my laptop I'm running 3 linux distros:
	1) a recent sabayon version of gentoo
	2) a somewhat outdated kubuntu version of debian
	3) a somewhat outdated fedora core (installed kde, NOT gnome)

On each of these systems I run what ever version of kde their
preconfigured command line package management tool:
	1) emerge
	2) apt-get
	3) yum
wants me to have...
Now the only reason why I dislike the touchpad pointing device less than
I dislike the traditional rodent is that with ksynaptics I can disable
tapping and get a mouse pointer that stays put while I type. AND does not
self click on every single object that lies between it's position and
what ever it is on the other side of the screen that I might want to
select with it.

In all of these versions when I restart kde (usually after rebooting)
I always have to get to the touchpad control section of kcontrol and
re-select tapping then re-disable it and apply before I can safely touch
the touchpad at all... Though in my case I don't need to apply twice. I
just have to alt+E the enable checkmark on, then off and Alt+A (apply
only once) until the next time kde is reinitialized.

In all cases the touchpad control section initially indicates that tapping
is safely disabled, but it appears to have been automatically set to be
functionally enabled by something which didn't bother to update the
kcontrol setting.
