My installation of JEdit placed the following shell script
at /usr/bin/jedit:

#!/bin/sh

# we must set path to jdk 1.3.x
. setJava --version 1.3

if [ -n "$CLASSPATH" ] ; then
  CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/usr/lib/jedit/jedit.jar
else
  CLASSPATH=/usr/lib/jedit/jedit.jar
fi

export CLASSPATH

java org/gjt/sp/jedit/jEdit $@ 1>/dev/null 2>/dev/null

And my Kmenu entry for it has "jedit %f" in the Command field.
