You are welcome. (My only Linux exp is FC, but I assumed they ALL had 
the alt+F2 option).
Wish I could help with the panel. I went to click to hide long ago 
because of the same problem. In my case, it may have been just a delay 
do to lack of CPU (an old k6/300 at the time). But I stuck with the 
click to hide option when I upgraded to this P4.
