[kde-linux] Accident loses sound

I planned to try this this morning, but lo and behold!  I have sound again!

I guess that something I tried yesterday that didn't seem to work had actually 
made a difference when I did a clean power-up this morning.   Is it possible 
that log-out and reboot doesn't quite do the same thing?
