I'm thinking of taking a whole different approach, perhaps adapting the screen-grab extension with a command-line option.
But if I get a chance I'll be sure to mention the X-window ID problem on one of their forums. (forae?)

This seems to be a problem with how firefox creates or manages its windows.
If you call xwininfo and click on the firefox window, you get a different
window ID, but if you call xwininfo -tree in the ID from xlsclients, this
other window ID does not show up as a child

Sounds like a bug. Better ask on a support channel for firefox/Mozilla
