I think this is not the case. This option, when active, starts the daemon when
you log in KDE, even if you don't open Kontact. This way, KOrganizer is still
able to fire up the configured alarms when Kontact is not running.
However, the daemon is allways ran when you open Kontact, no matter if this
option is selected or not. AFAIK, there's no way to prevent this.
