Hi,

That is perfectly normal.

When your burner start to burn a DVD or a CD, it can't go at full speed 
since it's too near the center. So gradually, it's writing speed 
increase while burning up to the edge of the CD or DVD. The speed of a 
burner is not a fix value in the sense that it doesn't go always at that 
speed. The speed must be read as "up to" 8X by exemple. The only reason 
people think their burner is always at the same speed is because some 
burning softwares don't display the current writing speed but the 
maximum speed only.
