[kde-linux] Konqueror and changing permissions

Hi list,

I have KDE 3.5.1 installed on Gentoo and noticed something strange. 
When I am in Konqueror as root and right click on something and click
properties, then try to change the permissions, like user name, group or
the read/write part, when it goes to change it I get a error message. 
It just pops up a box with the file name and that is it.  The title bar
just says error - konqueror and it has a circle with a X in it. 
Sometimes when I check, the permissions are changed to what I want them
to be and sometimes not.  It varies.

Anybody else get this?  Is there a fix or work around?
