[kde-linux] file copy failure

I'm running 3.5.3 on kubuntu dapper, but I've had this problem under both SUSE 
and Mandriva as well and with kde back at least to 3.3.x so I think it's kde 
related.
When i try to copy a large directory (100s of files) using konqueror, not all 
the files get copied to the destination, but if I use midnight commander, the 
files do get copied.  When the files don't get copied, there's no error or 
anything, everything appears normal, it's just that not all the files get 
copied.  I haven't figured out whether there's a pattern to the files that 
get copied or don't copied.
Any ideas what the problem is or how to cure.
