[kde-linux] 'Cannot launch kwrite'

I can edit a config file from a kdesu konqueror and save it, but when I try to 
edit another one I see the above error.  I have to log out to clear it.  I've 
seen this from time to time in Mandriva, but this seems to be a regular 
problem now.  This is KDE 3.5.1-0.1.fc4

Ksysguard doesn't seem to register anything obvious as still running when it 
should be shut down.  I've tried 'xhost +localhost' as root.  Any other 
suggestions?
