An update of sorts on my mime type problem.

I found a reference to my problem which recommended deleting the file
octet-stream.desktop from the home/.kde/share/mimelnk/application dir.

I just renamed it and moved it to a safe place.
No more warning about mime type messages!!
Great.
Now that everything seems to be back to the way things were, I still cannot
play ogg files when I double click a link on web page, instead I am asked if
I wish to open the file with KWRITE. This is where all my problems began 2 or
3 days ago, trying to get ogg files to play.

When looking at or modifying the ogg item in the konqueror "known types"
window (....settings/configure konqueror/file associations).., if I change
the application order to say MPLAYER, it works. Double clicking an oog file
brings up the requester asking if I wish to open the file with MPlayer. Fine.
However, of the other choices in the window, totem movie player and xmms both
behave like kaffeine in giving the "open file with kwrite?" requester. Xine
also seems to be happy to play ogg files.

Now I can't just sit here and have things half working.
I gotta know why this is going on.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Waz
