[kde-linux] No sound on Compaq Presario B3800

Hi guys,
I am running PCLOS 0.93a and cannot get the sound working.
CD's play as do DVD's but no sound.
In KDE Control Center The setup for sound all seems to be ok and once, on 
Saturday morning after 2 hours of tweaking the sound came to life.
On rebooting the laptop NO...Sound and after 3 hours Sunday Morning i still 
have no sound. BUT cd' do play as do DVD's. So the system thinks the sound 
driver is there.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
