[kde-linux] xubuntu sound not working

I had a similar problem with no sound on an older machine recently,
had to manually load the module for the sound driver, then it worked.
(then added it to /etc/modules to have it loaded at every startup)
(sorry, no idea what the module could be called in  your case -- it
probably starts with snd-)
