[kde-linux] kded - wazzit do?

I've got a Viao Laptop with a jogdial. After a whole afternoon
of googling around I found that kded prevents applications
from accessing /dev/sonypi thereby blocking things like
jobdiald from working.

Supposedly this is because KDE has built in support
for the jogdial and other things offered by sonypi, but
if so, its pretty lacking (no support for Fn+Keys).

Using Control Center to deactivate kded allows
jogdiald to work.

But what have I lost by killing off kded? What
does it do? Its rather obscure.
