Now that I am (presumably) totally on this, I find that the session is 
restored veerrrrryy sloooowwlly. First the screen is black, a good few 
seconds later finally the background image and icons are show with an empty 
panel. A good few seconds, the panel gets its icons and items and finally KDE 
is really up and running.

This is not occurring on other logins which also have background images and 
fewer icons.

What's happening?
